International Tennis Hall of Fame
National Historic Landmark · Newport, Rhode Island
The sport's museum and hall of fame, housed in the Newport Casino — a Shingle Style social club commissioned in 1879 by the newspaper owner James Gordon Bennett Jr., designed by Charles McKim with interiors by Stanford White, and opened in 1880. The United States Lawn Tennis Association held its first national championships here in 1881, which makes these lawns the original home of what is now the US Open. The Hall of Fame was founded in 1954 and the property is a National Historic Landmark.
194 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, Rhode Island, 02840, United States
The museum is open seven days a week, generally 10:00 to 17:00, year round — unusually reliable for Bellevue Avenue, where most properties close seasonally. Adult admission is roughly $20-$25 and CHILDREN OF TWELVE AND UNDER ARE FREE. The historic Newport Casino building, the horseshoe court and the piazza are included. ⚠ DURING THE HALL OF FAME OPEN, AN ATP TOUR EVENT PLAYED ON THE GRASS EACH JULY, the site operates as a tournament venue: tickets are separate, museum access is restricted, event security and a tournament bag policy apply, and Bellevue Avenue is congested. Check the tournament dates before travelling. Parking on Bellevue Avenue is limited and the surrounding residential streets are restricted and enforced.
