Jack Daniel's Distillery
Registered Distillery No. 1 — National Historic Landmark · Lynchburg, Tennessee
Registered Distillery No. 1, the oldest registered distillery in the United States, working since 1866 in a hollow at Lynchburg where an iron-free limestone spring comes out of the rock. Every drop is filtered through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal before barrelling — the Lincoln County Process, which is what separates Tennessee whiskey from bourbon. The distillery also now tells the story of Nathan Green, the enslaved man who taught Jack Daniel to distil and became its first master distiller.
