Jane Addams Hull-House Museum

Historic House · Chicago, Illinois

The house on Halsted Street where Jane Addams and Ellen Gates Starr founded the American settlement movement in 1889, running a neighbourhood of immigrant garment workers as a nursery, a night school, an art gallery and a research operation at the same time. Addams took the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931 — the first American woman to — and two of the original thirteen buildings still stand, free to walk into.
