Jay Peak

Ski Resort · Jay, Vermont

A ski area in the far north of Vermont, close enough to the Canadian border that a large share of the people on the mountain have driven down from Quebec. It takes about three hundred and eight inches of snow in an average year, the most in the eastern United States, and the glade skiing that snow makes possible is what the mountain is actually known for. It also runs an aerial tram, which is an outlier east of the Rockies, and an indoor waterpark at the base that keeps the place busy in months when there is nothing on the hill.

⚠ SEASONAL ON THE MOUNTAIN AND YEAR ROUND AT THE BASE. The ski season runs roughly late November to late April and often holds cover later than the rest of the east because of the snowfall; a shorter summer lift, hiking and biking season runs roughly late June to early September, with a closed gap either side. THE INDOOR WATERPARK IS OPEN YEAR ROUND. ⚠ THE WATERPARK IS GENERALLY INCLUDED WITH RESORT LODGING AND CHARGED SEPARATELY OTHERWISE. Lift tickets are cheaper booked online and ahead. ⚠ THE MOUNTAIN SITS ON THE CANADIAN BORDER and takes heavy Quebec traffic - February is busy with both American and Quebec school holidays, and anyone intending to cross should carry documents. There is no village: the resort is self-contained and the surrounding towns are very small. Check current season dates before travelling.
