Jimmy Carter National Historical Park
National Historical Park · Plains, Georgia
Three sites in and around Plains, a south-west Georgia farming town of a few hundred people that produced a president and that he came back to and stayed in for the rest of his life. The park holds Plains High School, which he and Rosalynn both attended and which is now the visitor centre and museum; the boyhood farm at Archery, restored to how it was in the 1930s before the house had electricity; and the old railway depot that served as his 1976 campaign headquarters. It is free, it is quiet, and it is unusually intimate for a presidential site.
300 North Bond Street, Plains, Georgia, 31780, United States
