Joe Wheeler State Park

Alabama State Park · Rogersville, Alabama

A resort park spread across two and a half thousand acres on Wheeler Lake in the Tennessee Valley, with a lodge on the water, one of the larger marinas on the Tennessee River, a golf course and a campground. It is named for Joseph Wheeler, who was a Confederate cavalry general and later a United States general in Cuba, which is an unusual career and the sort of thing the Tennessee Valley produces. The draw is the water and the quiet rather than anything dramatic.

4401 McLean Drive, Rogersville, Alabama, 35652, United States

Open daily year round for a small day-use fee, with the lodge, cabins and campground open to registered guests around the clock. The marina, golf course and swimming facilities are seasonal and keep their own hours.
