Journey Museum and Learning Center
History Museum · Rapid City, South Dakota
Rapid City's museum of the Black Hills, built around five collections that together run from the geology of the rock through the Lakota to the settlers - it is set up deliberately as a journey, beginning with Native American creation stories rather than with the geological record, and letting the two accounts of the same place sit alongside each other. Seven acres of gardens surround it, and they are free.
222 New York Street, Rapid City, South Dakota, 57701, United States
Generally open daily with reduced hours on Sundays and in winter; closed major holidays. Ticketed. ⚠ IT COMBINES FIVE SEPARATE COLLECTIONS under one roof and is larger inside than the entrance suggests. Seven acres of gardens outside are free to walk. Check the winter schedule before travelling.
