Kadikoy and Moda

A Cafe Filled Quarter On The Asian Side With A Famous Food Market (Kadikoy Carsi), An Old Fish Market, Bars, Bookshops, The Moda Seaside Park, Street Art And A Long Evening Ferry Ride From The Old City. The Most Local Feeling Area For Eating And Strolling In Istanbul · Kadikoy, Istanbul

Kadikoy and the neighbouring Moda quarter form the liveliest district on the Asian shore of Istanbul, reached by public ferry from Eminonu or Karakoy in about 20 minutes (confirm). Kadikoy was once the ancient Greek settlement of Chalcedon, and today it is a place of cafes, bookshops, record stores, street art, theatres and bars, with a reputation for a young, creative and local crowd. The Kadikoy Carsi market streets behind the ferry pier hold fish sellers, delicatessens, pickle shops, spice stalls and old-fashioned restaurants, while the Bull statue near the pier is the traditional meeting point. A short walk south, Moda has quiet tree-lined streets, old mansions, tea gardens and a seaside park with a long view over the Marmara to the Princes Islands. The district rewards wandering without a plan, with food as the main reason to come, and it feels much less touristic than the old town across the water.
