Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site
Historic Site · John Day, Oregon
A stone-walled building in John Day that was a Chinese apothecary, general store, doctor's surgery and community centre from 1888 to 1948, run by Ing Hay and Lung On. When it closed it was locked and left, and when it was opened again in the 1970s everything was still inside - the herbs, the ledgers, the shrine, the tins on the shelves. It is a National Historic Landmark and is regarded as the best-preserved Chinese apothecary in the United States.
