Karahayit Red Spring
A Village Of Hot Spring Hotels And A Red Coloured Iron Rich Spring That Colours Rock Terraces In Rust And Orange, With Mineral Pools And Mud Treatments, Close To The White Travertines Of Pamukkale. A Cheaper And Quieter Spa Stop Than Pamukkale Itself · Pamukkale, Denizli
Karahayit is a small spa village about 4 to 7 km north of Pamukkale in Denizli province, known for its red spring. The water rises hot and rich in iron, and as it flows it leaves rust-coloured, orange and brick-red deposits on the rock, so the stepped terraces near the source look like a stain of paint on the hillside. The village grew around the spring, and today it has family-run thermal hotels with indoor and outdoor pools, small treatment rooms and a mud bath, along with cafes, souvenir shops and a few restaurants. The mud and the mineral water are used for rest and for skin and joint comfort, though any health claim should be taken with care (confirm). Karahayit is quieter and often cheaper than Pamukkale, and many visitors use it as a calm base or a second soak after the white terraces. The red colour is best seen in daylight, when the iron shows brightest. A short walk covers the whole village.

The red terraces near the source are best seen in daylight and may be fenced or closed to walkers (confirm). Cafes and shops open from about 09:00 to evening, with shorter hours in winter. Summer weekends and holidays are busy, so ring ahead to book a pool, and confirm the hours and the fee on the day.
