Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts

Concert Hall · Kansas City, Missouri

A Moshe Safdie building opened in 2011 on a bluff above downtown Kansas City, with two separate halls under one shell - the 1,600-seat Helzberg Hall for the symphony and the 1,800-seat Muriel Kauffman Theatre for the ballet and opera. From the south it is a pair of stacked shells; from the north it is a curved glass wall a hundred feet high looking over the city. It is the home of the Kansas City Symphony, the Kansas City Ballet and the Lyric Opera, and it changed the city's downtown when it opened.

1601 Broadway Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri, 64108, United States

Open on performance days and for scheduled tours; there is no general daytime public access to the halls. THE BUILDING'S EXTERIOR AND THE BRANDMEYER GREAT HALL LOBBY are the parts a casual visitor can see, and the lobby is open before performances. Free public tours run on a posted schedule, usually a couple of days a week - book those, as they fill. The season runs roughly September to June.
