Kelso Dunes

Sand Dunes · Kelso, California

A forty-five square mile dune field in the Mojave National Preserve rising to six hundred and fifty feet, and one of roughly thirty-five places on earth where the sand booms — slide down the steep face and the whole dune produces a low rumble you feel through your feet as much as hear.

Kelbaker Road, Mojave National Preserve, Kelso, California, 92309, United States

Open 24 hours, year-round, free. Booming works best when the sand is dry.
