Keno City is a former silver-mining village at the end of the Yukon's Silver Trail, about 60 km north of Mayo in the central part of the territory. Silver and lead mining on nearby Keno Hill began in the early 1900s and made this hillside community, and it still holds old wooden buildings, mining equipment and trails that climb the hill above. A small year-round community lives here, with a mining museum open in summer. The road is partly gravel, the setting is quiet and rugged, and the pace is slow. It is not a polished heritage site but a real village with a history, which is its charm. Services are few and mostly seasonal, so bring fuel, food and layers. Bears are present, mosquitoes are common in early summer, and the weather turns quickly on the hill. Many visitors come in June to September for the long light and the open roads, and some return for autumn colour. Confirm museum, lodge and cafe dates before the drive.
