Kerry Park

Viewpoint · Seattle, Washington

A small terrace on the south slope of Queen Anne Hill, given to the city in 1927, that happens to hold the view Seattle is pictured from - downtown, Elliott Bay, and Mount Rainier behind the skyline on a clear day. It is about a third of an acre, it is free, and it is the source of very nearly every postcard, title sequence and news establishing shot of the city. There is a playground below it and essentially nothing else.

211 West Highland Drive, Seattle, Washington, 98119, United States

Open daily, 6 AM to 10 PM, free. It is a residential street viewpoint rather than an enclosed park, so there is no gate and no staff. Sunset and the hour after are by far the busiest, and in summer that means a crowd on a narrow terrace with almost nowhere to park.
