Keukenhof
Spring Flower Garden Of About 32 Hectares With Millions Of Bulbs, Open About Eight Weeks A Year (19 March 10 May In 2026) · Lisse, South Holland
Keukenhof is the spring flower garden at Lisse, in the bulb district between Leiden and Haarlem, and for about eight weeks a year it is the most photographed garden in Europe. Growers plant it by hand every autumn with millions of bulbs - often quoted as about seven million - across roughly 32 hectares of old estate parkland, so that from late March to mid May the lawns, ponds and woodland paths run with crocus, daffodils, hyacinths and then tulips in hundreds of varieties. It opened in 1950 as a shop window for Dutch bulb growers, and it still works that way: the pavilions hold changing flower shows and the gardens show off new varieties. Around it lie the working bulb fields of the Bollenstreek, striped red, yellow and purple in April, best seen by bike. In 2026 it is open daily from 19 March to 10 May, and every visitor must book a date and time slot online. The honest caveat: it is busy, it is not cheap, it is closed ten months of the year, and the bloom depends on the weather, so the tulips you saw in photos may be a week early or late.
