Key West Historic District
Old Town · Key West, Florida
The last island on the Overseas Highway, closer to Havana than to Miami, and a town of tin-roofed conch houses, gumbo limbo trees and about twenty-five thousand people who take considerable pride in being difficult. Duval Street runs a mile and a quarter from the Gulf to the Atlantic, Hemingway wrote here for a decade, and the whole island seceded from the United States in 1982 and surrendered a minute later.
