Killington

Ski Resort · Killington, Vermont

The largest ski area in the eastern United States, with the largest vertical drop in New England at about three thousand and fifty feet, spread over six mountains and fifteen hundred acres with Pico next door on the same ticket. They call it the Beast of the East and the name is about scale rather than difficulty - a hundred and fifty-five trails is more than a week of skiing. It also runs what is often the longest season in eastern North America, opening in late October some years and closing in late May, better than two hundred days on snow.

⚠ SEASONAL, AND THE SEASON IS THE RESORT'S DISTINCTION - Killington often runs the LONGEST SKI SEASON IN EASTERN NORTH AMERICA, opening as early as late October in a good year and closing as late as May, better than 200 days. ⚠ THAT DOES NOT MEAN 200 DAYS OF FULL MOUNTAIN; check what is actually open at the shoulders. Summer lift-served mountain biking and sightseeing run roughly late June to early September, with a closed gap either side. LIFT TICKETS ARE SUBSTANTIALLY CHEAPER BOOKED ONLINE AND AHEAD, and the resort sits on a major multi-resort season pass. ⚠ PICO MOUNTAIN IS INCLUDED ON THE SAME LIFT TICKET at no extra cost. Lodging lines about five miles of the Killington Road rather than forming a village, and a shuttle works the corridor in winter.
