Kim Lien is a village in Nam Dan district of Nghe An province, around 15 km from Vinh, known as the home area of Ho Chi Minh. The tour has two parts: Hoang Tru, the modest house where he was born in 1890, and Kim Lien, the home village a short walk away, which he returned to as a child. Both are simple thatched houses of bamboo, mud and straw set among fields, ponds and fruit trees, and a museum nearby holds photographs and personal items. School groups and domestic tour coaches fill the site, especially in May around his birth anniversary. The nearby coast has Cua Lo, a long beach resort used mostly by Vietnamese holiday-makers. It suits people interested in modern Vietnamese history and those already travelling between Hanoi, about 300 km north, and Hue or Dong Hoi. It is worth a half day on that route if you are driving through. It is not a destination on its own for a general visitor with limited time.
