King Ranch
Ranch · Kingsville, Texas
The largest ranch in the United States — 825,000 acres, nearly the size of Rhode Island — founded in 1852 when the riverboat captain Richard King camped at Santa Gertrudis Creek. It is a National Historic Landmark District and a still-working cattle operation, and it is where American ranching was largely invented: the Santa Gertrudis, America's first breed of beef cattle, was developed here, as was the first registered American Quarter Horse. Daily bus tours run a twelve-mile loop of the Santa Gertrudis division.
905 West Santa Gertrudis Avenue, Kingsville, Texas, 78363, United States
Visitor Center open daily with guided bus tours of the Santa Gertrudis division; book at king-ranch.com. ⚠ The daily tour is roughly 90 minutes on a bus with essentially one stop — book a Special Interest, Wildlife or Birding tour to get out of the vehicle.
