King's Saddlery and Don King Museum

Working Saddlery With A Free Museum · Sheridan, Wyoming

A working saddlery and rope shop on Sheridan's Main Street, founded by the saddle maker Don King, whose floral-carved Sheridan-style leatherwork became famous across the West; King Ropes are used by ropers nationwide. Behind the shop a free museum is packed with hundreds of saddles from around the world, tack, cowboy gear, wagons and memorabilia. It is a genuine working business rather than a tourist attraction, which is what makes it worth the stop. The museum is packed with saddles from many eras and places, plus wagons, carriages, spurs, bits and cowboy gear. Walking in feels like entering a working ranch store, and the collection has grown with pieces gathered by the King family over decades. It is a short walk from the Mint Bar and the Sheridan Inn.
