Kinnick Stadium
Stadium · Iowa City, Iowa
The University of Iowa's football stadium, opened on 5 October 1929 and seating 69,250, named for Nile Kinnick — who won the 1939 Heisman Trophy and died on active service in the Second World War, making this the only college football stadium named after a Heisman winner. Since 2017 it has been known for something other than football: at the end of the first quarter the entire stadium turns to face the children's hospital next door and waves at the patients watching from the top floor.

⚠ THIS IS A COLLEGE FOOTBALL STADIUM WITH SEVEN HOME GAMES A SEASON, September to November, AND IT IS CLOSED THE REST OF THE YEAR. There is no regularly published public tour, so on a non-game day the visit is the exterior and the Nile Kinnick statue — people do drive to Iowa City expecting otherwise. ⚠ THE IOWA WAVE HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER, when the whole stadium turns to face the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital next door and waves at the patients watching from the top floor; at night games the crowd raises phone torches. Tickets are limited, sold to season-ticket holders and students first, and most visitors end up on resale — BUY BEFORE BOOKING TRAVEL. A clear-bag policy is enforced at the gate with no storage for rejected bags. Accessible seating must be arranged through the university ticket office, not bought on resale.
