Kinzua Bridge State Park

State Park · Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania

The remains of the Kinzua Viaduct, built in 1882 and rebuilt in steel in 1900, once the tallest railroad bridge in the world at over three hundred feet. A tornado took eleven of its towers out of the valley on 21 July 2003 while it was closed for restoration, and rather than clear the wreckage the state left it where it fell and turned the surviving half into an observation deck. You walk six hundred feet out on the original track bed to a glass floor at the broken end and look down at the twisted towers lying in the valley below.

296 Viaduct Road, Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania, 16740, United States

Park and Sky Walk open daily, generally 8 AM to sunset, free. The Kinzua Bridge Visitor Center keeps daytime hours with a reduced winter schedule and is closed some weekdays out of season. The Sky Walk closes in high winds and during electrical storms.
