Konyaalti Beach is the long, famous pebble beach of Antalya, running for roughly 7 km (confirm) along the western side of the gulf, with the grey wall of the Taurus Mountains rising straight behind it. The water is deep blue and clear, the stones are smooth and grey, and a wide promenade follows the whole length with cafes, playgrounds, cycle paths and ice-cream stands. Free public sections sit beside beach clubs that rent sunbeds, showers and cabins, and the Antalya Museum, an aquarium and a themed sand park lie close to the eastern end (confirm). The Tunektepe cable car climbs a nearby mountain for views over the gulf, and sunset behind the mountains is the best of the day. The beach is the main swimming place of the city, busy in July and August, lively at weekends, and calm and breezy out of season. Plan three hours for a swim and a walk, or a full day for the cable car and the promenade.
