Koreshan State Park
Florida State Park · Estero, Florida
The preserved settlement of the Koreshan Unity, a utopian sect that moved from Chicago to the Estero River in 1894 to build a New Jerusalem for ten million people, and whose founder taught that the entire universe exists inside a hollow Earth with humanity living on the inner surface. Eleven of their buildings survive, along with the bamboo and tropical plantings they laid out, and the last member deeded the land to the state in 1961.
