L.L.Bean Flagship Store

Promenade · Freeport, Maine

The L.L.Bean flagship in Freeport, founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean after his feet got wet hunting, and open twenty-four hours a day, every day, since 1951 - when the store took its locks off the doors and never put them back. It is a retail shop that has become a genuine landmark, with a sixteen-foot boot outside it, and it is the reason a town of eight thousand has an outlet district.

95 Main Street, Freeport, Maine, 04032, United States

⚠ OPEN 24 HOURS A DAY, EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR - and that is not marketing. The flagship removed its locks in 1951 and has stayed open through nights, holidays and blizzards since. It closes only in genuinely exceptional circumstances. FREE to enter; it is a shop. The surrounding Freeport outlet village keeps ordinary retail hours.
