La Villita
Heritage District · San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio's first neighbourhood — a block of 18th and 19th-century buildings on a rise above the River Walk, saved from demolition in the 1930s and now an arts village of more than two dozen galleries and studios with artists working on site. It is free to walk, it is genuinely old, and it is about two minutes from the busiest stretch of the river.
418 Villita Street, San Antonio, Texas, 78205, United States
A public historic district, free to walk and open at all times — but the galleries and studios keep their own hours, generally late morning to early evening, and outside those hours there is little to see. Sits directly above the River Walk; ⚠ some connections between the two involve steps. Seasonal night markets and festivals run into the evening.
