Lac La Ronge Provincial Park

The Largest Provincial Park In Saskatchewan At About 3,360 Square Kilometres; Lac La Ronge Holds Over 1,300 Islands, And The Park Contains Nistowiak Falls And The 1860s Holy Trinity Anglican Church At Stanley Mission · La Ronge, Saskatchewan

Lac la Ronge is a Shield lake with OVER THIRTEEN HUNDRED ISLANDS in it, and the provincial park around it is THE LARGEST IN SASKATCHEWAN at about three thousand three hundred and sixty square kilometres - which surprises people who think of the province as flat farmland. This is the other Saskatchewan: granite, black spruce, and water running north. NISTOWIAK FALLS, where the Rapid River drops about ten metres into the Churchill River system, is the highest waterfall in the province and is reached only by boat or float plane. At STANLEY MISSION stands HOLY TRINITY ANGLICAN CHURCH, built between 1854 and 1860 - THE OLDEST STANDING BUILDING IN SASKATCHEWAN - with its original imported stained glass, reached by boat across the river. The park sits within the traditional territory of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, one of the largest First Nations in the province, and the community is inseparable from the place.
