Lady Evelyn Falls Territorial Park
A Small Territorial Park Around A Curtain Waterfall On The Kakisa River, A Smooth 17 M Drop Over A Limestone Shelf, With A Campground, A Short Trail To The Base And Swimming Below The Falls In Summer. A Short Side Trip From The Mackenzie Highway, Reached By A Gravel Road · Kakisa, Northwest Territories
Lady Evelyn Falls Territorial Park lies on the Kakisa River in the southern Northwest Territories, reached by a gravel spur of roughly 18 km that leaves the Mackenzie Highway near the hamlet of Kakisa (confirm distance and road surface). The river steps over a broad limestone shelf and falls about 17 m in a smooth curtain, wide and pale, into a pool where the spray hangs in the air on warm days (confirm height). A short path leads from the parking area to a viewing point and down to the rocks at the base, and a small campground sits in the spruce and aspen nearby. In summer visitors swim and wade below the falls, and fishermen work the river for pike and walleye. Beyond the falls the water runs toward Kakisa Lake and the great drainage of the Mackenzie system. The park is a gentle detour on the long drive north from Alberta toward Fort Providence and Yellowknife, quiet, forested and quick to see, yet pleasant enough for a night.

The park is a summer facility, with the campground and day-use area usually open from about mid May to mid September (confirm dates). The access road is gravel and can be soft after heavy rain, and there is no gate or staffed booth in many seasons, so arrival times are flexible. Daylight lasts nearly round the clock in June and July, which allows late evening walks, but the nights chill quickly in September. In winter the spur is not maintained for visitors and services are closed, so plan to visit between late spring and early autumn.
