Laguna Madre and La Pesca
A Long Coastal Lagoon Protected As A Flora And Fauna Reserve (The Laguna Madre And Delta Del Rio Bravo, 2005), A Wintering Ground For A Large Part Of The World'S Redhead Ducks, With La Pesca Beach, Tarpon And Snook Fishing And Wide Gulf Sands. A Fishing And Birdwatching Coast For Tamaulipas And Texas Visitors · Soto la Marina, Tamaulipas
Laguna Madre is a long, shallow coastal lagoon on the Gulf of Mexico in Tamaulipas, protected as a flora and fauna reserve and known as a wintering ground for a large share of the world's redhead ducks between about November and March. The village of La Pesca sits near the mouth of the Soto la Marina river, with a wide sandy Gulf beach, small waves, simple seafood restaurants and a long local tradition of guided fishing for tarpon, snook and redfish. The setting is flat, hot and open, with salt marsh, mangrove edges and big skies. It suits anglers, birdwatchers and families from Texas or Ciudad Victoria who want a quiet, low-cost beach weekend without resort crowds. It is worth the detour in winter for birds or in the fishing season for a guide; it is not worth it if you want nightlife, clear blue water or shade, or in summer when heat and mosquitoes are heavy.
