Lake Chelan

Lake · Chelan, Washington

A 50-mile glacial trough in north-central Washington, averaging barely a mile and a third wide and running from orchard country at its southern end deep into the North Cascades at its northern one. It is the third deepest lake in the United States at nearly 1,500 feet, and the floor at its deepest lies well below sea level. The south end is a warm-water resort town surrounded by vineyards; the north end has no road to it at all.

Lake Chelan, Chelan, Washington, 98816, United States

The lake is open at all times. Lake Chelan State Park and the developed access points keep daylight hours and require a Discover Pass to park. The Lady of the Lake passenger boat to Stehekin runs on a published seasonal timetable with fewer sailings in winter - it is the only scheduled public transport to the head of the lake and the timetable governs any trip up there.
