Lake Eufaula

US Army Corps Of Engineers Reservoir On The Canadian River, Impounded 1964; Oklahoma'S Largest Lake By Surface Area · Eufaula, Oklahoma

Oklahoma's largest lake by surface area, about 102,000 acres of water made in 1964 when the Corps of Engineers dammed the Canadian River, with some 600 miles of shoreline across four counties in the east-central part of the state. It was built for flood control and power, and it became the state's bass-fishing centre: tournaments run most of the year, and the lake also gives up crappie, catfish, white bass and paddlefish. Because the shoreline is long and mostly undeveloped, there are dozens of ramps, Corps campgrounds, marinas and state park areas, including Arrowhead and Eufaula Cove, along with cabins and lodges around Eufaula and Checotah. Wind is the lake's defining feature: it is wide and open enough to build real waves, and small boats should watch the forecast. In mid-September 2026 the lake sat about 3.5 feet below normal, at roughly 77 per cent of conservation pool, so ramps were shallow and shoreline exposed.
