Lake Metigoshe State Park

Subnational Park · Bottineau, North Dakota

Fifteen hundred acres of aspen, oak and small lakes in the Turtle Mountains on the Manitoba border, fourteen miles north-east of Bottineau. The Turtle Mountains are not mountains but a forested plateau rising a few hundred feet above the surrounding prairie, glacially pitted with lakes and bogs, and the effect is a piece of Minnesota lake country stranded in the middle of the northern plains. It adjoins Turtle Mountain Provincial Park across the border.

2 Lake Metigoshe State Park, Bottineau, North Dakota, 58318, United States

Open year round with a per-vehicle North Dakota state park entry fee. The campground, cabins, swimming beach and boat ramp are seasonal and reservable through the state park system, with summer weekends and the cabins filling early. ⚠ WINTER IS A FULL SEASON HERE rather than a closure - groomed cross-country ski trails, snowshoeing, a sledding hill and heated cabins. The Canadian border is immediately north and Turtle Mountain Provincial Park adjoins the park across it, but crossing requires a port of entry and valid travel documents.
