Lake Ouachita State Park

Arkansas State Park On Lake Ouachita, The Largest Lake Entirely Within Arkansas At Around 40,000 Acres, Impounded By Blakely Mountain Dam And Surrounded Almost Completely By The Ouachita National Forest. · Mountain Pine, Arkansas

Lake Ouachita is the largest lake wholly inside Arkansas and one of the clearest in the country, mostly because almost its entire shoreline is national forest rather than houses - there is very little private development on forty thousand acres of water. That clarity is why there is a marked underwater dive trail here, which nobody expects to find in Arkansas. The state park sits on the southern shore with cabins, a marina, a campground and a swimming area, and the Three Sisters Springs on the grounds were sold as healing water long before the lake existed. Around two hundred islands are scattered across the lake, most of them open for primitive camping if you have a boat.

Open year-round and Arkansas state parks charge no entrance fee. The visitor centre and marina keep daytime hours with reduced winter service; boat hire and the swimming area are seasonal. Cabins and campsites are booked through Arkansas State Parks. Island camping on the lake is administered by the Corps of Engineers rather than the park.
