Lake Placid
Heritage Village · Lake Placid, New York
A village of about two thousand people in the Adirondack High Peaks that has hosted the WINTER OLYMPICS TWICE, in 1932 and 1980 — one of only three places in the world to have done so. The 1980 Games produced the Miracle on Ice, and the village has spent forty-five years being a working winter sports town rather than a museum of one: the venues are still in use and athletes still train here.
