Lake Poinsett State Park

Arkansas State Park On Lake Poinsett, A 640 Acre Lake On The Eastern Slope Of Crowley'S Ridge In North East Arkansas, Whose Dam Was Rebuilt And Lake Refilled After Years Of Drawdown. · Harrisburg, Arkansas

Lake Poinsett is a six-hundred-and-forty-acre lake on the eastern slope of Crowley's Ridge, and the interesting thing about it is that for years it was not a lake at all - the dam failed inspection, the water was drawn down and the park sat beside a mud flat while the state decided what to do. The dam was rebuilt and the lake refilled, and the fishery had to be started again from nothing, which is why the bass here are younger and the fishing is improving rather than established. It is a small, quiet park with a campground, cabins and a boat ramp, on the ridge that gives this corner of Arkansas its only high ground.
