Lalbagh Fort
Fort · Dhaka, Dhaka
Dhaka's unfinished seventeenth-century Mughal citadel — begun in 1678 by Prince Muhammad Azam, son of Emperor Aurangzeb, continued by governor Shaista Khan and abandoned after the death of his daughter Pari Bibi, whose exquisite tomb now anchors the walled gardens. Three main structures survive on the lawns: the Diwan-i-Aam audience hall (now the fort museum), Pari Bibi's mausoleum, and the three-domed Quilla Mosque, all inside high walls above the old course of the Buriganga in the heart of Old Dhaka.
