Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum
Open Air Museum · Lancaster, Pennsylvania
An open-air museum of Pennsylvania German rural life outside Lancaster, built on the collection two brothers, Henry and George Landis, spent their lives assembling from the farms around them. Forty-odd buildings across a hundred acres hold tools, textiles, wagons, pottery and firearms, with costumed trades worked in several of them. Its Heirloom Seed Project quietly does something more unusual than any of that: it preserves and sells the vegetable and flower varieties Pennsylvania German farmers actually grew, several of which survive nowhere else.
2451 Kissel Hill Road, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, 17601, United States
A Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission site. Generally open a few days a week from spring through autumn, with partial winter closure and a Christmas programme — verify the operating days before travelling, and check which days the trades are being worked, which materially changes the visit.
