Larrabee State Park

Subnational Park · Bellingham, Washington

Washington's first state park, created in 1915 when the Larrabee family gave twenty acres on Samish Bay to the state, and now 2,748 acres running from the tidewater up over Chuckanut Mountain. It sits on Chuckanut Drive, the cliff road south of Bellingham, and is the only place in the state where the Cascades come down directly to salt water. The shoreline is sandstone honeycombed into hollows by weathering, and there are two mountain lakes above it.
