Las Estacas Natural Park

A Natural Park Built Around A Clear Spring Fed River Of Warm Water At About 24 C All Year, With Snorkelling, Kayaking, A Diving Area, A Zip Line And Cabins. A Day Or Weekend Out For Families From Mexico City And Cuernavaca, With An Entry Fee And Busy Weekends · Tlaltizapan, Morelos

Las Estacas is a natural park in the warm lowlands of Morelos, near the town of Tlaltizapan and about 60 km south of Cuernavaca. Its centre is a spring-fed river that rises clear and warm and stays near 24 C all year, so swimming is pleasant in winter as well as summer. The water is so clear that fish, plants and the sandy bed are visible from the bank, which makes snorkelling the main draw. There is a diving area for certified divers, kayaks on the calmer stretches, a zip-line over the water, shaded lawns, picnic tables, cabins and a camping area. It suits families with children, groups of friends and anyone who wants a day in clean warm water outside Mexico City. It is worth the drive on a weekday or a quieter weekend. It is less worth it on Saturdays and Sundays, when the lawns are full and the river fills with swimmers. There is an entry fee, and activities cost extra. Bring a towel and water shoes, and confirm current prices and opening days before you travel. Tlaltizapan and its Zapata museum are separate stops, listed under nearby places.
