Las Lenas Ski Resort

A Purpose Built Ski Resort Opened In 1983 In The Andes Of Southern Mendoza, Known Internationally For Steep Off Piste Terrain · Malargue, Mendoza

Las Lenas is a self-contained ski resort high in the Andes of southern Mendoza, built from scratch in the early 1980s at the head of a remote valley, and its reputation among serious skiers worldwide rests on one thing: steep, open, high off-piste terrain. When the upper lift known as Marte is running, it opens chutes and bowls that draw expert skiers and film crews from North America and Europe during the northern summer. The rest of the mountain is wide, treeless and good for intermediates, and the resort is ski-in, ski-out, with hotels and apartments at the base and nothing else for miles. It is also far from anywhere: about four hundred kilometres from Mendoza, reached by road or by flights to Malargue, and strong wind regularly closes the upper lifts. The resort has had periods of financial and operational trouble, and which lifts run in a given season has varied, so check before you book. Nearby Malargue is the base for the volcanic landscapes of La Payunia and the Caverna de las Brujas.
