Las Vegas Arts District
The 18 Block Arts District (18b) Between Downtown And The Strip, Home Of The Monthly First Friday Festival · Las Vegas, Nevada
The Las Vegas Arts District is a patch of older streets just south of Downtown and north of the Strip, centred on Main Street and East Charleston Boulevard. It is often called 18b, after the eighteen blocks the city designated as an arts district in 1998, and it has grown from a handful of galleries in cheap warehouses and low commercial buildings into the city's main neighbourhood for independent bars, restaurants, vintage and antique shops, murals and small theatres. Its best-known event is First Friday, a monthly evening street festival with art, music, food trucks and big crowds, most of them locals. Otherwise it is a quiet, low-rise area with no casinos, which is why people come: to see where residents eat, drink and shop. It is small, spread out and uneven - lively blocks sit next to empty lots, and homelessness is visible on some nearby streets - so it suits an evening of dinner and bars or a morning of antique hunting rather than a full day. It combines easily with Fremont Street, the Neon Museum and The STRAT, all a short drive away.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the streets are open at all times, bars run from afternoon or evening into the early hours and some stay open around the clock, restaurants serve lunch and dinner with many closed on Mondays or Tuesdays, antique and vintage shops open roughly mid morning to early evening and often close early in the week, galleries keep short or appointment-only hours outside First Friday, and First Friday runs from early evening to late night on the first Friday of each month. The traps that ruin a day are turning up on the wrong Friday, shopping for antiques on a Monday or after dark, arriving at a restaurant on a weekend without a booking, and parking late on an event night far from the lively blocks. Confirm current times before relying on them.
