Lawachara National Park

National Park · Srimangal, Sylhet

A semi-evergreen forest eight kilometres from Srimangal and the most reliable place in Bangladesh to see western hoolock gibbons - the country's only apes - swinging and whooping through the canopy at dawn. Declared a national park in 1996 on forest the British planted as plantation a century ago, Lawachara packs gibbons, capped langurs, slow lorises and a famous railway line that cuts straight through the trees into a few square kilometres of walkable trails. A Khasia village inside the forest still farms betel leaf in the understorey.

Sreemangal-Bhanugach Road, Srimangal, Sylhet, Bangladesh

Open daily through daylight hours, roughly sunrise to sunset, with ticketed entry at the main gate; the forest effectively closes as light fails. Dawn is the whole point for wildlife. Fee schedule (dual local/foreigner pricing) UNVERIFIED for 2026.
