Lexington Market
Covered Market · Baltimore, Maryland
A public market in west Baltimore that has been trading since 1782, which makes it one of the oldest continuously operating markets in the United States. It was named for the battle at Lexington and it fed the city through the whole of its industrial history. The old hall was demolished and a new building opened alongside it in 2022 after decades in which the market's reputation had gone badly downhill — the rebuild was explicitly about fixing that, and it largely has.
400 West Lexington Street, Baltimore, Maryland, 21201, United States
Generally open Monday to Saturday, roughly 9 AM to 5 or 6 PM, with LIMITED OR NO SUNDAY OPENING and individual stalls keeping their own hours — verify before travelling, and note it is a daytime market that closes in the late afternoon. Free to enter. Served directly by the Baltimore Metro and light rail. A new market hall opened in 2022 and the previous building has been demolished.
