Lincoln and North Woodstock

Twin Gateway Towns At I 93 Exits 32 And 33 At The Western End Of The Kancamagus Highway, The Main Base For Lodging, Food And Supplies For Franconia Notch, Loon Mountain And Lost River. · North Woodstock, New Hampshire

Two small towns that run together where Interstate 93 enters the heart of the White Mountains at exits 32 and 33, at the western end of the Kancamagus Highway. North Woodstock is the older village: a short Main Street at the junction of Routes 3 and 112, where the Moosilauke River meets the Pemigewasset, lined with pubs, family restaurants, an inn with its own brewery and a few shops. Lincoln stretches east along Route 112 toward the ski resort, a busier strip of motels, condo complexes, small shopping plazas, a supermarket, gas stations and restaurants that grew with the ski boom. Together they are the main base in the western Whites for beds, meals and supplies, a short drive from the Flume and Franconia Notch, the gondola, the gorge at Kinsman Notch and the summer attractions on Route 3. The Pemigewasset runs clear over granite through both towns, and swimming holes lie a mile or two west. Summer and foliage weekends bring heavy traffic and full rooms; midweek and in the spring and late-autumn shoulder seasons the towns are quiet and cheaper.

Supermarket and gas stations near exit 32 keep long daily hours (confirm). The Hobo Railroad generally runs from about late spring to mid-October with a holiday train in December (confirm dates). Clark's Bears and the water park on Route 3 open roughly June to Labor Day or Columbus Day. Agassiz Basin and other swimming holes are natural areas used in daylight, best in July and August.
