Lincoln Children's Zoo
Children'S Zoo (Nonprofit) · Lincoln, Nebraska
The Lincoln Children's Zoo is a small nonprofit zoo on South 27th Street in Lincoln, Nebraska's capital, beside Antelope Park and a short walk from the Sunken Gardens. Opened in 1965 and long known locally by an earlier name, it was designed around young children: close-up encounters, animal feedings, touch areas, a small train and paths short enough for toddlers. In recent years it has been substantially expanded, with a new entry and larger habitats for headline animals that have included Sumatran tigers, red pandas and penguins; treat the exact species and exhibits as things to check, since they change. The honest scale: this is a neighbourhood zoo, not a destination. Families with children under about ten can happily spend two or three hours, while adults without children will be done in about an hour. Visitors who want big African animals, aquariums and a full day should drive an hour to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo; this one suits a Lincoln morning combined with the gardens, the Capitol or the Haymarket.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: open year round on Central time, roughly 9 or 10 am to 4 or 5 pm in the warmer months, with shorter hours, possibly fewer open days and fewer outdoor animals on show in winter; closed on some major holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. The train and rides run mainly in the warm months. The traps that ruin a day are arriving mid-afternoon in summer when animals sleep and the train queue is long, promising rides that are not running, and planning a Lincoln weekend on a Husker home football Saturday. Confirm current times before relying on them.
