Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor
Pennsylvania Heritage Area · Bedford, Pennsylvania
Two hundred miles of US Route 30 across southern Pennsylvania, following the first road built across the United States — the Lincoln Highway, conceived in 1913 to link New York to San Francisco at a time when there was no such thing as a paved intercity route. The Pennsylvania stretch runs from Philadelphia through Lancaster, Gettysburg and Bedford to Pittsburgh, over the Alleghenies on the alignment the trucks and the tourists used before the turnpike took the traffic away in 1940. What survives is a corridor of roadside architecture: coffee-pot buildings, painted murals, motor courts and diners that stopped changing when the traffic left.

A public highway, open and free at all times, year round. The Lincoln Highway Experience at Latrobe and the individual attractions along the corridor keep their own hours; several roadside businesses are seasonal and close between November and April.
