Lincoln Park Conservatory
Conservatory · Chicago, Illinois
A Victorian glasshouse of 1890 to 1895 in Lincoln Park, built by Joseph Lyman Silsbee as a paradise under glass for a city that spends five months of the year frozen. It is small — four display houses across about three acres — and it sits between the free zoo and the lakefront, which makes it the easiest free warm room in Chicago to stumble into on a cold afternoon.
