Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site
Memorial · Springfield, Illinois
A 117-foot granite obelisk in Oak Ridge Cemetery holding Abraham Lincoln, Mary Todd Lincoln and three of their four sons. Lincoln's remains were moved seventeen times and the tomb rebuilt twice; after a gang tried to steal the body in 1876 and ransom it, he was finally reburied in 1901 in a steel cage under ten feet of concrete. It is free, and it is the second most visited cemetery in the United States after Arlington.
