Linville Caverns

Show Cave · Marion, North Carolina

The only show cave in North Carolina, an active limestone cavern in the mountains just south of Linville Falls on US 221, discovered in 1822 by fishermen who followed trout swimming out of the mountainside. It has been open for tours since the late 1930s. It is a modest cave by national standards and it is the only one of its kind in the state, which makes it worth the thirty-five minutes.
