Liseberg

Scandinavia'S Largest Amusement Park, Opened In 1923 For Gothenburg'S Jubilee Exhibition; Known For The Wooden Coaster Balder, Its Halloween Season And Its Christmas Market · Gothenburg, Vastra Gotaland County

Liseberg is Scandinavia's largest amusement park, sitting in the middle of Gothenburg a short tram ride from the centre. It opened in 1923 as part of the city's jubilee exhibition for its 300th year, and the old gardens on the hill have grown into a park of serious thrill rides and gentle family ones. Its star is Balder, a wooden roller coaster that often tops enthusiast polls for Europe's best, backed by the launched coaster Helix, the dive coaster Valkyria and a very tall drop tower. The green rabbit mascots run a children's area, summer evenings bring concerts, and in autumn and winter the park turns into a Halloween fair and then one of Sweden's best-loved Christmas markets. Nearby is the Oceana water park, said to have opened around 2024 on a separate ticket. The honest caveat: Liseberg is closed for part of every year, park entry does not include rides, and summer weekends and July bring long queues and high prices.
